speakers to DVD

Hi all,
I have 2 old speakers with +- cabels from each (red and black)
I want to try and use them with a DVD that I got just to play music.
here's the thing. in my DVD there are 2 parts of exits:
1. yellow, red, white - video right left
2. sorround - front (white red) rear (white red) center sub.

I think I need to connect the speakers to the first part but as I mentioned there are only twoexits there, red for right and white for left, whike I have +- X2 on 2 speakers.
I thought to try and connect the +- to RCA cable ( where here's yellow red white) and it didn't work. I'm not sure if it's even tthe right cable.

can anyone advise? which cable I need and how to connect?
