A1 EVO MAESTRO MJ

Basic Requirements:
1. Room EQ Wizard Beta (obtain from AVNirvana)
2. Calibration microphone (Audyssey or better) with calibration file (connected to PC)
3. AVR with relevant Audyssey
4. HDMI Cable (PC to AVR)
5. MultEQ Editor App
6. VLC Media Player on PC (enable HDMI passthrough)
Getting the AVR ready:
1. Set your maximum listening volume (e.g. -15db)
2. Find IP address of your receiver
3. Amp assign should be correct
4. Upload sample calibration file to Nexus and export DEQ on/off file
(this will reset AVR filters and distances etc. and prepare AVR for measurements).
5. Select HDMI source
6. Connect microphone to PC.
7. AVR > Audio > Surround Parameter > Turn off loudness management / cinema EQ / dynamic compression
(options available when an atmos signal is playing)
8. Turn off ECO mode
Getting REW ready:
1. Upload mic calibration file
2. Preferences > View > Set maximum measurements to 500
3. Use ASIO4All version 2.15 drivers
4. If using Java drivers, select the EXCL versions of the drivers.
5. Check levels to ensure mic is working.
6. Disable: Analysis > Loopback delay reference is IR peak
7. Disable: Equalizer > Drop filters if gain is small
8. EQ > Add target curve
Center the microphone:
1. Click measure in REW
2. Set level to 0 dBFS
3. Set range to 10000 to 24000
4. Sweep> Settings > Length to 64k
5. Measure left and right speakers
6. Check overlays > impulse graph
7. Change view to percentage instead of dbfs and zoom in
8. Check distance of peak of left speaker from that of the right speaker.
9. Move mic as per the findings and remeasure left speaker until it is within 3cm of right speaker.
Measuring:
1. Click measure in REW
2. Open VLC and create a playlist of all the channels relevant to you (from lossless sweeps folder).
3. Playback > from file > select: 256kMeasSweep_0_to_24000_0_dBFS_48k_Float_L_refR.wav
4. Click start and playback relevant channel in VLC
5. Run multiple measurements per channel
6. Run cross correlation for each channel (main measurement should be at the top of the
selected measurements e.g. FR0 – FR1 – FR2) – to time align the different mic positions
7. Run vector average of aligned measurements (the result will be the final measurement)
8. Keep only vector averaged measurements and remove the rest
9. There should be only one measurement for each speaker
10. In directional bass setting, there will be 2 subwoofer measurements
Optimizing:
1. Click optimize calibration and follow instructions if any.
2. Use LFE+Main
3. LPF for LFE to 120hz (or 250hz if sub has early cutoff)
Guide:
1. The script will run in default mode whenever you load or reload the script.
2. User, can upload a custom refTarget from the attached Excel to modify the refTarget.
3. The script retains the last uploaded data until it is replaced with a fresh Excel upload.
4. For the custom refTarget curve, change cell value B3. Other than that,
you do not need to change anything in Excel.
5. Script reads column "F" from Excel for refTarget values...
6. Please use the attached Excel sheet Only.
7. Script also except .ods format, if, someone does not use .xls format.
Note:
1, With this tick box, the script can be switched between Default vs refTarget.
Sky Font Electric blue Magenta Darkness
2. By default this tick box is ticked.
3. Until custom refTarget data is not loaded, you can not untick it (I guess
4. When custom data is loaded, the tick box will be unticked automatically.
5. Now, you can switch between Custom vs Default refTarget.
6. If the wrong Excel is loaded or an invalid format is loaded,
the script will be switched to default mode with a warning.

here is a little guide how to measure with sweeps from rew
load the AVReceiverREWmodeDEQ file into the receiver
set the sub LPF for LFE to 250
set the movie button to Multi Channel In from the remote control
ECO mode disable
Make sure Dialog Enhancer is turned off and all other enhancements,
Restorer off, Cinema EQ off, Loudness Management off, Dynamic Compression off
load Audyssey ACM1HB batch mic calibration file.txt if you using Audyssey mic
do measurement at the maximum possible volume, but make sure REW does not show errors
if REW does not display all your speakers, then after measuring all the speakers
that are in REW, you need to connect the speakers that were not there to the
speaker outputs on the receiver that are displayed in REW
for example, connect the ceiling atmos to the FL and FR output
immediately after measurement, write down their required names in REW
After all measurements, return everything as it should!
• Watch on YouTube and read the section under the video for links.
• Yes, Nexus requires a subwoofer.
* You can safely ignore warnings about sub level. Sub levels and polarity are
a case by case matter, especially with multiple subs. Only change these if
you don't like something in the sound.
• If you have two (or more) subs, play an LFE or SW1 or SW2 sweep
(they are identical and all play from the same output of the AVR).
Both subs can be connected as they normally would to subouts 1 & 2,
but you need to switch one off each time. You can do so from the subs or from
the AVR menu (i.e., change SW2 to None and then SW1 to None, respectively).
• 1M sweeps will slow down optimization process quite a lot and 256K
is more than enough for Audyssey's filter capacity.
• REW mode ady sets all speakers to Large and crossovers are disabled.
• When you are using 0-24000Hz sweeps, LFE boost is disabled.
• Macs using lossy sweeps should use REW's own sweeps at -20dBFS
for subwoofer measurements.
• If you have top surround and center height speakers, you will have to
switch banana plugs on the AVR for these two.
• After uploading an ady file, reboot the avr (power off/wait/power on,
reset from the main menu, etc.).
• Never use the front HDMI port.
• The high frequency roll off is a characteristic of all Marantz AVRs;
they have a slow filter. In the latest generation (e.g., the AV10 and the Cinema 30)
however, they let you override that: filter 1 selects the slow rolloff
while filter 2 is flat. https://www.avsforum.com/goto/post?id=63593304
1. VLC Player (and it's the same version for everyone and it does play
the most recent sweeps without a problem so the sweeps are formatted correctly)
tends to switch audio device frequently so if no sound, first thing to check is
if VLC selected device is your AVR on HDMI (and don't forget HDMI passthrough
enabled in audio settings)
2. Especially if you did REW's own sweeps initially, ASIO4All will dedicate
the AVR to REW and VLC will be silent even when audio device is selected correctly.
You need to untick AVR connection in ASIO control panel and "Reload" to free it up for VLC.
3. Always "Reload" ASI04All after you make a change there and check if the correct
inputs/outputs are still active. If they are not, repeat until they do. Everything
should always be at 48kHz. It tends to respond correctly after a few attempts sometimes.
4. Make sure the AVR is not in some fancy surround mode including Multich-in, anything
other than default Movie/Stereo will not auto switch to Atmos.
5. If you are using Java Excl. drivers, temporarily disable every other device you don't need
(players and/or recorders/mics) in Windows/Mac OS sound settings,
this helps with confusions a lot.
6. If you are going mad because everything seem right and it still doesn't work,
it might be the HDMI cable you are using.
7. Ignore vibrations in the room during sweeps, this is not distortion.
A measurement is only distorted and invalid if REW shows no headroom
(headroom turns from green to red) in the measurement window during the actual sweep.
Only then you need to worry about how to decrease mic gain or sub volume.
If you don't need ATMOS, you can use REW for all your sweeps. Guide posted here:

REW for macOS - How to Setup your Mac for REW
Due to the recent increase of interest from Mac users and some current Windows users
for REW for macOS, I decided to share my experience and some basic steeps that
would lead you to properly setup your MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air,
Mac mini or iMac to run REW. To be honest, there is not too...
