New Update on the Denon X4800H and LG G3 eARC issue.
In a reply received from Denon support today.
They have isolated two issues between the LG G3 and the receiver.
Issue 1: The eARC signal output from the LG G3 contained a lot of Jitter,
the Jitter Reducer detected the error and muted it in the Audio PLD.
This means the AVR's jitter reducer is muting the audio due to the amount
of jitter detected in the signal. (It exceeds the tolerance)
The countermeasure here is to issue a firmware patch in the next update
to increase the tolerance of the jitter reducer in the Audio PLD.
The next update (called U33) should be released right around March 13th.
Issue 2: In rare cases, the timing of eARC audio data output from the TV may change.
This means the LG is changing the timing of the audio data in the output stage.
There's nothing that can be done about this from the AVR's side and that
issue will need to be corrected by LG. In Denon's testing, they found this
issue to occur about once per hour.
They also recommended changing the LG's eARC Digital Sound Output setting
from "Auto" to "Pass Through" to see if that might help reduce the 2nd issue's frequency.
Things are moving forward, at least. Overall, the Denon support has been
pretty good. Once LG and Denon got over the finger pointing and did
actual testing between them, Denon came up with a plan. now we are all looking
forward to the new firmware's release!
