February 24, 2006
Measuring 11"H x 6 1/2"W x 10 1/2"D, B&W's new CM1 ($450 each) is said to be sized "for custom applications where it can be hidden away in purpose-built cabinetry." Owners may think differently about this petite speaker -- its real-wood veneer (rosenut, maple or wenge) and Nautilus technology demand for it to be displayed prominently. The CM1 is a two-way, vented-box design that uses a 1" aluminum-dome tweeter derived from B&W's original Nautilus design and a 5" B&W-designed and -manufactured Kevlar midrange/bass driver. The first-order crossover uses "a select audiophile-grade capacitor." Grilles are attached with hidden magnets. The fully shielded CM1 is appropriate for stereo or home-theater use.

B&W CM1
B&W's CM1 is a masterpiece in the audiophile class of mini-monitor loudspeaker. Physically small but big-hearted, the CM1 plays music with passion, having a full-bodied bass with fresh, clean and sweet highs. The acoustic concept is based on a minimalist first-order crossover using a carefully selected high-grade capacitor, united to the now-familiar B&W Kevlar and aluminum diaphragms drivers, here tuned to work at its optimum with the purer type of filtering. And the look of CM1 perfectly suits its sound – a simple, traditional shape of box, beautifully finished in natural veneers in fashionable colors, with polished aluminum rings to complement its drive units. The CM1 gives more than a touch of high-end quality at a comparatively modest price....
בהצלחה!
