If Christopher Moore didn’t get greedy, he could’ve gotten away with buying an Xbox 360 with counterfeit money.

Alas, he did and he didn’t.

The 21-year-old Virginia Wesleyan College student successfully paid for a 360 at a Gamestop with funny $100 bills, but stupidly returned to the scene of the crime the next day when he tried to return the 360, ostensibly, for viable currency.
The Gamestop manager got wise when the bills didn’t look quite right, which is a savvy bit of observation, as the U.S. Secret Service determined the bills were crafted with a printing press and plates.

No shoddy laser printer mock ups here–it seems Mr. Moore had a something of an operation going.

I’m not sure of the specific name for this particular grift, but I’ve see enough caper movies to know there’s a name. I hope it’s something cool like Pig-in-a-Poke or Russian Dingleberry or Pigeon drop or Spanish Prisoner.

Also of note: Three of those are actual names for actual grifts. Can you guess which isn’t?
