Toshiba Unveils Flagship TV model for ASEAN Market

Singapore —Toshiba today announced the introduction of the 55ZL800, a new flagship LED TV for key ASEAN home entertainment markets that offers outstanding image quality. The 55ZL800 is inspired by CELL REGZA, the flagship of Toshiba’s REGZA line-up which has had an outstanding impact in the Japanese market. The 55ZL800 integrates Toshiba’s newly developed high-end TV engine, a driver for delivering unrivalled quality and industry-leading technologies, and will be available in a 55-inch model from the end of January, 2011.

The 55ZL800 is inspired by the CELL REGZA TV, the ultimate entertainment machine introduced for the Japanese market, and features Toshiba’s newly developed CEVO Engine, a high-performance multi-processor platform that draws on the company’s extensive experience in semiconductors and software to deliver breathtaking image quality, sharp, realistic 3D, and excellent sound.

This new engine assures that the 55ZL800 delivers superb image quality, sharp, realistic 3D, and excellent sound quality. In addition to its enormous processing power, the 55ZL800 also boasts a high luminance “Mega LED Panel” which introduces 512-cluster local dimming, which is an advance technology in screen illumination that secures superb dynamic contrast and guarantees outstanding picture detail and quality.

The new 55ZL800 is at the heart of Toshiba's strategy to establish a strong presence in the Asian high-end home entertainment market by offering consumers levels of picture and sound quality that enhance home entertainment. Superior 3D Technologies Powered by CEVO Engine
The CEVO engine offers superior picture quality and also an impressive level of brightness in 3D mode. Since digital TV broadcasts often make use of a lower bandwidth and transmit pictures at lower resolution in side-by-side mode, unlike a Blu-ray 3D disc, 3D broadcasts can have a lower perceived sharpness. Toshiba’s 3D Resolution+ analyses each image and uses complex algorithms to recognize the missing image content and to compensate for this. The result is a significantly sharper, more detailed near FULL-HD 3D image. In addition, Toshiba’s high performance 2D to 3D conversion technology, a dedicated unit integrating a powerful processor, captures and analyses image composition and movement in 2D content and converts it to 3D with precise rendering and natural, high definition images.

Innovations for an Outstanding Picture Quality
The 55ZL800 features the bright, luminous “Mega LED panel”. A peak luminance of 1,000cd/m2 (the display's highest level of brightness and the maximum yet achieved in the industry) assures stunningly bright whites, while the wide dynamic range achieved by backlight luminance adjustment delivers a dynamic contrast ratio of 9,000,000:1, assuring deep, detailed blacks. An innovative local dimming technology that individually triggers 512 LED areas adjusts the backlighting according to the displayed content, to deliver extremely high contrast and precise black and a detailed grey scale. In addition, the processing power of the CEVO engine combines with the backlight scanning to achieve a 200 Hz frame sequence. The result is noticeably sharper moving pictures.

Outstanding Sound Quality
55ZL800 picture quality is complemented by a specially designed audio system and multi-amplifier system that delivers vibrant, full-bodied sound far surpassing that of current TV sound systems. The two-way sound-bar speaker system is driven by a 40W multi-channel amplifier brings outstanding sound quality.

Availability
The 55-inch 55ZL800 will be available in January 2011 in most Asian countries.
