Advice needed

First, I would like to apologize for writing in English but in spite that I do speak and read Hebrew very fluently I am not used to type in Hebrew and it would take me ages to write this message.

In 1985 I bought some audio material from guy named Beni from Audiophile in Haifa ( I guess that the shop does not exist anymore). For the last 10 years now and for many different reasons I stopped listening music with my audio system and today I do not even know if the remaining elements still work; I don't have a CD player and even not any wire left to connect the different elements of the system. Lately I decided to see if my audio system is still working.

Amplifier: Naim Audio NAD 110
Pre Amp: Naim Audio NAC 42
Loudspeakers: Linn Sara

Do you you know any decent audio dealer who could test my system. If I decide to sell these elements and purchase a new system do you know if the element I own have any price in the market today? I live in Tel Aviv.

I have been told long ago that each of the elements of my system is great by itself but that the NAP 110 was not powerful enough for the Sara Isobarik and that what I hear may be fine but to get the best of the Sara a more powerful amplifier like the NAP-250 is needed .
Could it be the reason that when my system was working, once I passed half the power (on the scale's level) there was almost no more amplification but only more 'noise' like if the amplifier was 'sweating'. I will ask Ilan Tamir next week but meanwhile I would like to know your opinion?

ה-42 הוא PRE מאד בסיסי מבין הדגמים של NAIM. אם זה היה תלוי בי הייתי עושה לו הסבה ל-42.5 ומוסיף לו ספק כח חיצוני (רצוי לא של NAIM).
ה-110 עונה על אותו תיאור בדיוק. במקרה שלו הייתי מחפש עוד 110 כזה והופך את השניים למונו-בלוקים.
תוסיף לזה מקור ברמה טובה (אלא אם יש לך LP-12) ורק אז ה-Sara יתחילו לשיר כמו שהם יודעים. מיותר לציין שה-SARA חייבים לעמוד על סטנד (רצוי המקורי שלהם).
באותה הזדמנות שווה לבדוק את מצב הרמקולים - אם הם לא עברו שיפוץ עד היום, זה מחוייב המציאות.

Hi Yairf,

Thank you very much for the very useful comment. Since day one that I got my system, in spite that I was very pleased and loved the sound I had this feeling that it was somehow unbalanced and that I was not getting the best out of my Saras

Anyway the problem is that today, financially, I have not the same possibility than when I purchased my system in 1983 and I will not be able to spend, and by far, the same amount of money on my system than in the past. My budget is very tight today and If I upgrade my system it will only be done patiently ,slowly and step by step only. I guess that first I will to put some money to get my system to work properly and buy a new CD player. I have no LP-12

Knowing that I will have to buy a better one later, I was thinking to buy right now, just to make make my system work, a very cheap and basic CD player. If I go for a upgrade I prefer to start with the Naim's elements. You talk about two kinds of upgrades: an external PS to make my 42 a 42.5 and to add a NAP 110. How much each one of these two upgrades may cost? Since I can upgrade step by step only, which one do you recommend to start with or which one is the most important or will give the best about my speakers?

I was thinking about an other way to "upgrade" my system: to keep the 42 and the 110, sell my Saras and buy some very good second hand smaller loudspeakers (maybe a second hand Linn Kan) more suitable for the 42 + 110. It may look as a downgrade but if by the end my system give me a more satisfying result is it not an upgrade? Do you think this solution is good one and maybe a less expensive one than the Naim's upgrade to fit my pair of Sara?

Edited: What I want to really upgrade is my experience as a music listener and not my system per se and of course since my budget is limited I would like to do it with the smallest budget as possible. If to get there I have to 'downgrade' my speakers to fit my amplifiers and get not only a better musical experience or even a much better one than with my the present 'better' and more expensive system, then for me this is the best upgrade possible.
